Wildlife crime is not a side issue. It is an extinction issue. Every trafficked pangolin scale, every poached tusk, is a small collapse in a much larger system. Biodiversity does not fail all at once. It erodes, species by species, until ecosystems can no longer hold themselves together.

Behind every dog is a handler who knows how to read them. Alongside them are the rangers who turn what the dog finds into action.
At Mkomazi National Park, just five Kuru-trained canine units support a wider force of 82 other rangers.
The dogs give the ranger teams a significant additional capability: finding more poachers, more snares, and creating more deterrence, allowing a relatively small specialist unit to strengthen the work of the whole park.
Dogs don’t replace rangers. They extend what rangers can do.

Kuru develops dogs and handlers to work together and alongside the rangers and wildlife authorities they support. Then we stay involved.
We maintain a culture of care, providing refresher training, veterinary and welfare checks, mentoring, and field support throughout the working life of the dog.
Kuru retains ownership of every dog we provide for life, remaining responsible for its welfare through its working years and into retirement.
